Installing Ghostbar

Ghostbar installs with a single Terminal command. It takes about 30 seconds, once per Mac, and there are no security warnings to click through.

macOS (Apple Silicon or Intel)

    Open Terminal

    Press ⌘ Space, type Terminal, and press Return. It's also in Applications → Utilities.

    Paste your install command

    The command below is tied to your account and expires in an hour. It detects your Mac's chip, downloads the right build, installs it to Applications, and opens Ghostbar.

    Grant permissions

    On first run, Ghostbar asks for Microphone, Screen Recording, and Accessibility (for overlay and transcription). Allow each in System Settings → Privacy & Security, then press ⌘⇧O to show the overlay.

If the command fails

  • “Missing install token” — the line was pasted without the token. Copy it again from the install page with the Copy button rather than by hand.
  • “Download failed” or a 401 — the token expired. It lasts an hour; reload the install page for a fresh one.
  • Ghostbar doesn't open afterwards — launch it from Applications once, then email support if macOS still blocks it.

In-app updates

After the first install, open Ghostbar → Settings → Advanced → App updates → Check for updates. Production and staging builds check different update feeds automatically.
